Review - Wolverine Origins 26
June 30th, 2008

This series started out with a bang but has dropped off of late. But I stuck with it knowing I’d be rewarded and boy this issue did not disappoint.
Great way to move the story forward!
Daniel Way (titles?) is fast becoming my favorite writer. I love how he’s able to not only get into Wolverine’s head but get the reader there as well.
Origins is still a relatively new series and at first there was some controversy over whether or not the comics should delve that deeply into Wolverine’s past. After all, one of the things that made Wolverine such a fascinating character was that we didn’t really know who he was and neither did he. Some felt that giving him his memories back would kill the mystique and the allure of the character.
They’re wrong. They’re wrong not only because knowing now what exactly is driving Wolverine adds yet another layer to his character, but also because of Daken, his son.
Even though Wolverine is clear on his past, and so subsequently are we, Daken is an area he’s still fuzzy on. He’s only recently been made aware of his existence. Imagine the shock he must have felt when he learns his son is alive and has survived into adulthood, that he is a mutant with similar powers, and that he hates his guts and wants to kill him.
If you’re like me, you were dying to know all about Daken.
This issue more than delivered on that front. Not only do we learn a little of Daken’s past, we learn that he and his father are much more alike than different.
Parallels can be drawn between the two characters when it comes to their childhoods. They both grow up with a feeling of not knowing who they really are. They both endure tragedies within their immediate families, tragedies that come about accidentally through their own doing. Bot run away and end up in the wrong hands.
Sabertooth’s cameo at the end was awesome.
All in all, this issue definitely renewed my enthusiasm about the series.
And the new art isn’t bad either.
